The Abyssal Glider is a fast military unit of the Space Age Jupiter Moon. It is unlocked by the technology Deep Frequency Module and can be trained in the Glider Foundry. It is preceded by the Energy Cannon and succeeded by the Permafrost Drone. It has the special skills Keen Eye and Flying. Like all other units, it takes 4 hours to train and heals at a rate of 24 minutes per hit point.
Compared to the Energy Cannon, the Abyssal Glider gains 50 attack, 50 extra bonus points against ranged and artillery units as well as a 5% increase in the Keen Eye ability. Virtually everything else is kept the same, including movement, range, defense and the Flying ability, though there is a slight change in terrain bonus.
Usage[]
Like previous Space Age fast units, the Abyssal Glider remains a useful fast unit, especially as an army of eight, due to their very fast movement and decent range, allowing them to potentially deal a lot of damage on the first turn, especially when they get a Keen Eye hit, allowing them to significantly wear down enemy armies before they can counterattack. Their Flying ability is also very useful as well, as it is unhindered by terrain and cannot be attacked by artillery units, making them very strong and useful. However, they still have some difficulty against other enemy units with defensive skills, especially against the Harpoon Grenadier and Glacier Hiker.
Against Same Age Units[]
Harpoon Grenadier[]
Despite the Abyssal Glider having bonuses against the Harpoon Grenadier, the Contact! ability of the Harpoon Grenadier can cause quite some trouble to the Abyssal Glider when they attack them on the first turn (unless they are killed by your Keen Eye ability). Apart from that, an army of Abyssal Gliders can still win against a lot of Harpoon Grenadiers, because the Abyssal Glider can attack on the first round and deal significant damage to the Harpoon Grenadiers before they are able to counterattack. In certain circumstances, it may be better to use your own Harpoon Grenadiers and rogues against Harpoon Grenadier armies.
Division Drones[]
Like previous Space Ages, the fact that the Abyssal Glider can attack before the Division Drones gives them the upper hand of destroying many Division Drones before the Division Drones can attack on the next turn. However, the marginally higher defense of the Division Drones does eventually cause some trouble in high attrition fights if the Abyssal Glider doesn't eliminate them easily, and the Division Drones can still cause trouble to the Abyssal Glider if they attack them.
Abyssal Glider[]
It is generally not advised to use Abyssal Gliders to counter Abyssal Gliders, although if your Abyssal Gliders are in greater number, you can safely eliminate the enemy Abyssal Gliders, and they will cause no trouble. Generally however, the Abyssal Glider should focus on other more dangerous units before targeting Abyssal Gliders.
Cavitation Tank[]
As the Cavitation Tank can no longer attack Flying units (unlike the Power Dragon), the Abyssal Glider should focus on destroying other units before targeting the Cavitation Tank, as they pose no threat whatsoever to the Abyssal Glider.
Glacier Hiker[]
The Glacier Hiker’s strong base stats and Force Field ability greatly reduces the Abyssal Glider’s effectiveness against the Glacier Hiker, despite being able to attack them on the first turn. This becomes very apparent in medium attrition fights as the Abyssal Glider can no longer two hit kill the Glacier Hiker and the Glacier Hiker can attack the Abyssal Glider afterward, dealing considerable damage. Glacier Hikers are somewhat manageable in low numbers though Abyssal Gliders should not be used against them anyway.
