The Alchemist is the ninth unlocked production building in the game. It can be built after researching and unlocking the Alchemy technology in the High Middle Ages. It is the Second Most Efficient production building in the game. Clockmakers are the most efficient non-premium production building.
It is recommended to replace all previous production buildings to Alchemist as it has a high efficiency (production per unit of time per population per tile of space), players will save up both population and space with a higher production rate. The cost of Coins will likely take players some time to replace all previous buildings.
Do not replace Alchemists until you can get Clockmakers, as they do 140 extra supply production per hour for the same space, and you only need 28 more population, 23,000 more coins, and 4,300 more supplies.
