Archers are the upgraded version ranged unit to slinger. Archers have the highest attack in Iron Age, very effective in most situations. They have a combat bonus against heavy class such as the legionnaire. They gain the attack bonus while standing on rocky terrain.
However, the archer is low in defense so it is vulnerable to all sources of damage. They receive a combat bonus from fast units. It is possible to get killed in one hit by a mounted warrior. Thus, it is recommended to deploy with light infantry to eliminate the fast unit before the fast unit reach your archers.
One thing that worth to be mentioned is players will be required a total of 16 marble' to unlock the Archery technology, it is better to prepare it before researching it or you might end up stuck in this technology. Trading is always a possibility; it is recommended for you to join a guild early on. If you have a goods bonus, this would be an easy task.
*In update of version 1.0 (4.30.2013), the attack and range have been decreased from 11 and 6 to 10 and 5.
*In update of version 0.10.0.7497(6.6.2012), the training time of Archer is decreased to 2 hours.
*In update of version 0.10.1.8027(5.7.2012), Archer received a terrain attack bonus of 2 on rocks.
