The Augmented Samurai is a light military unit of the Virtual Future. It can also be received by completing the following Story Quests of the Virtual Future: Strange New Devices and It's Still An Arms Race.
In the Virtual Future, the Augmented Samurai has a strong attack but a somewhat low defense. It has very good movement, but a melee range of 1, as well as great bonuses against fast and heavy units. They possess two abilities, namely Contact! and Reactive Armor.
The currently available units that can attack an Augmented Samurai without retaliation are any units with ranged attacks and light units with the Dragon Breath ability. In fact, past the Progressive Era, the Augmented Samurai's Contact! ability only works against Drone Swarms, Warrior Monks, Hover Hammers and Drill Rangers (and themselves of course).
Usage[]
The Augmented Samurai is a very special yet weird unit in the game. It is a melee light unit, yet it possesses, not the Dragon Breath ability, but instead the Contact! ability, which makes pretty much no difference whatsoever in boosting its abilities. In addition to that, the Augmented Samurai falls very easily to long ranged units and even light units from previous ages with the Dragon Breath ability. It doesn't pair well with rogues given the risk that they endanger themselves especially against heavy units with lower initiative values on autobattle, and their melee range means that they suffer retaliation for their attacks against Contact! units and other units with melee retaliation. Its Reactive Armor also doesn't help either, as they can still be easily killed by artillery units with the Mortar ability and proves only a small hindrance for other units.
Against Same Age Units[]
Ninja[]
The Ninja is a threat to the Augmented Samurai, particularly as they can spawn in and deal considerable damage to the Augmented Samurai, even with the Reactive Armor protecting them. Despite this, the Augmented Samurai can still easily finish the Ninja afterwards, provided you have a good attack boost.
Warrior Monk[]
The Augmented Samurai is very effective against the Warrior Monk, especially as they have massive bonuses against them and can actually retaliate against the Warrior Monk and cause a lot of damage to them, particularly as their massive Dug In bonus is avoided. Meanwhile, the Warrior Monk is unable to deal much damage back to the Augmented Samurai, as they have the Reactive Armor ability protecting them.
Rocket Troop[]
The Augmented Samurai should not be used at all when fighting the Rocket Troop, due to the fact that they can cause significant damage to them with their Mortar ability, even with the Reactive Armor ability protecting them on the first turn. By the time the Augmented Samurai has even reached the Rocket Troop, they most likely have been finished anyway.
Augmented Samurai[]
It is not recommended to use Augmented Samurai against Augmented Samurai due to both sides having the Reactive Armor ability, which means that both sides will do pretty much 4 damage to each other and will result in heavy losses when paired with rogues.
Ronin Bot[]
Theoretically the Augmented Samurai is strong against the Ronin Bot, but the much long range of the Ronin Bot generally allows them to potentially deal a lot of damage to the Augmented Samurai before they even reach the Ronin Bot. Meanwhile, the Augmented Samurai still has to suffer retaliation when attacking the Ronin Bot, making the match-up on the practice much less useful for the Augmented Samurai.
