The Berserker is the light unit of the High Middle Ages Light Unit. It is trained in the Berserker Barracks, which can be unlocked by researching the Counterstrategy technology.
Compared to the Mercenary, it gains 7 attack points and 3 defense points, as well as increased bonuses against fast units, in bushes and in forests. Joint with the Crossbowman of its age, it has the highest attack in the High Middle Ages, but a slightly reduced defense.
Usage[]
Like previous age light units, they should be used mainly against cavalry, but they are also very effective against artillery and ranged units too especially as the Berserker has very strong attack and defense as well as movement compared to other same age units, and below. Like all light units so far, their biggest fear are heavy units, as they have very high defense and bonuses against light units.
Against Same Age Units[]
Knight[]
The Berserker is strong against the Knight, due to their bonuses against fast units. The very high attack of the Berserker means that they can deal significant amounts of damage to the Knight, and take reduced retaliation, especially if Berserkers are in forests or bushes.
Crossbowman[]
As neither side has bonuses against each other, the Berserker is on even footing when fighting the Crossbowman. Both units can deal significant damage to each other, and although the Crossbowman can attack at range, the good movement of the Berserker also allows them to counterattack on the next turn. The Berserker should go into bushes and forests in order to minimise the damage received from the Crossbowman's attack in order to take advantage of the fight.
Heavy Infantry[]
The Heavy Infantry is a very big threat to the Berserker. Like previous heavy units the Heavy Infantry has very high defense and bonuses against light units, making the Berserker very weak against them in close combat.
Trebuchet[]
Like previous ages, the Berserker is strong against the Trebuchet due to the very weak attack and defense of the Trebuchet despite its massive range. The Berserker takes little (though somewhat severe over time) damage from the Trebuchet and can deal enormous damage to the Trebuchet after a short journey, potentially one hit killing them if you have a good attack boost and have infiltrated the sector.
History[]
The berserker is a type of warrior that fought furiously and violently, often under the influence of alcohol or other hyperactive drugs. This type of warrior was used by the Germanic and the Norse during medieval times. In Forge of Empires this is represented by its high attack value and slightly lower defense as well as a good movement.
Trivia[]
In the army management it uses the same portrait as the Bronze Age Clubman, and in battle, the Berserker has the same battle figure as the Clubman and Barbarian.
