They are similar to building sets in that bonus(es) of the buildings are increased by the addition of other buildings. In contrast, set buildings only regard direct neighbors while the building chains regard connected buildings no matter the distance to the base building as long as they are correctly aligned.
By chaining selected buildings to the base building, the base building's production and/or bonuses are increased. The buildings have to be correctly aligned for the chain bonus to take effect. Spaces between the additional buildings break the chain. As the same building may be attached multiple times, the total number of buildings that can be added to the chain is only limited by the availability of the buildings and the player's city size.
If there is more than one building that may be connected to the base building for a proper chain, the additional buildings can be attached in any order.
Winter Train Chain
The Winter Train Chain consists of the Winter Train base building and the three different cars that can be attached to it:
- The Dining Car adds a 4% attack boost to the Train
- The Freight Car adds 5 goods to the collection of the Train
- The Sleeping Car adds 2 forge points to the collection of the Train
The level of the Winter Train building itself does not matter for the bonuses to take effect. Also, neither the Winter Train nor the additional cars need to be polished/motivated for the bonuses to take effect.
Road to Victory Chain
The Road to Victory Chain consists of the Statue of Honor and the Road to Victory building that can be attached to it. Although there are three different grafical variants of the Road to Victory building, all of them add 5 goods and 5% defense boost for the attacking army to the Statue of Honor.
The level of the Statue of Honor building itself does not matter for the bonuses to take effect. Also, the Road to Victory buildings do not need to be polished for the bonuses to take effect.
The Hippodrome Chain technically consists of two chains. A first chain can be created using the Hippodrome Sphendone as a base building and a second chain can be created using the Hippodrome Carceres as a base building. Both chains are formed by attaching track buildings to either of the two base buildings. What is special here, is that each track can be part of both chains at the same time when correctly aligned and placed without gaps.
- The Rousioi Track adds 3% defense boost for the attacking army to the connected base building(s)
- The Venetoi Track adds 3 goods to the collection of the Sphendone and/or Carceres
- The Leukoi Track adds 1 forge point to the collection of the Sphendone and/or Carceres
The level of the Carceres/Sphendone building itself does not matter for the bonuses to take effect. Also, neither the Carceres/Sphendone nor the additional tracks need to be polished/motivated for the bonuses to take effect.
As an additional effect, if the Carceres and the Sphendone are correctly aligned and there are no gaps between the two or they share the same track chain, a chariot will roam the hippodrome.
The Terracotta Vineyard Chain consists of the Terracotta Vineyard and the four different fields that can be attached to it:
- Grapevines ( 10)
- Cypress Pass ( 8% attack boost)
- Lavender Lawn ( 4)
- Olive Grove ( 8% defense boost for attacking army)
The level of the Vineyard building itself does not matter for the bonuses to take effect. Also, neither the Vineyard nor the additional fields need to be polished/motivated for the bonuses to take effect.
