Description[]
The Cannon is the artillery unit of the Late Middle Ages. It is trained in a Cannon Camp. It has a low attack and a horribly low base defense while having the longest attack range among Late Middle Ages units, even though it has decreased to 12.
Compared to the Trebuchet of the previous age, it gains +4 damage and it has slightly reduced range (-2), making it slightly less effective against enemies on the other side of the map. However, it compensates with a special Dug-In skill that can protect it when attacked by ranged attacks (+14 defense), thus making it incredibly durable when fighting Trebuchets of the previous age. Not even the Mounted Archer, which has had a notorious reputation of rushing and attacking artillery units on the first turn, can take them down easily because of the Dug-In ability.
Usage[]
The Cannon does have a relatively strong attack strength for an artillery piece and once again it is useful when attacking Ranged Units, because of their low defense and Heavy Units because of their bonuses.
Even though they have a Dug-In ability, 3 of the 5 units in LMA do not have range, so this ability is not very useful yet. Without it, they gain no defense at all, so the Great Sword Warrior and Heavy Knight can pretty much one hit kill them, and their loss of range can be bad if you try to move towards units opposite the map, exposing their weak defense easier.
Against other Cannons though, it will take more than two hits to kill them, so now the AI will no longer target your Cannons as a first choice of attack. You shouldn't move your Cannons forward to attack their Cannons back though, as it will expose your Cannons to other enemy units.
Against the Longbow Archer, Cannons can easily two hit them, but Longbow Archers can still two hit kill Cannons back, only that it isn't a total of 9 hitpoints lost when hit.
However, it actually has more attack points than half of the Great Sword Warrior's and Heavy Knight's defense points, so combined with a good attack boost, Cannons should be a useful unit to use in the LMA.
