Residential Building is the primary building that provide an amount of population and some gold in a certain of time. It is very important as it provides the basic condition in the game, the people and the income.

All the residential buildings have different properties like some provide much population but little in gold; some produce more gold but little in population. Some building can be collected in few minutes but some need hours. All the residential buildings occupies same space as 2x2. You need to decide for short term gold production or long term being several mintures compared to several hours. Depends how often you want to be on.

Mechanics

Unlike production buildings, residential building provides the population permenently as long as the residence is not sold and generates gold spontaneously overtime without required players to assign work, but players still needed to collect the gold once the gold is produced. The gold will not wither.

Note: This efficiency constant is not accuracy to represent the usefulness or efficiency of the buildings.

The efficiency of residential building is calculated by multiplying the Gold production per hour and Population provided as both of them are the two benefits. Size of the residences is not included as all of the residences up to the Colonial Age are the same with a size of 2x2 tiles. Note that all Industrial Age Houses have a size of 3x2.

Due to the formula of calculation of the efficiency, the residential building that is balance in gold production and provided population will always be the efficient residential building. But it does not mean player only build those building. In reality, players will be in largely need of population later in game. Choosing the high population residence will solve this problem in exchange of a lower gold income.

Furthermore, since the efficiency is taking Gold production per hour to calculate, this efficiency is not suitable for not-very-active players, who only go on-line about 1-2 times a day or less. It is recommended to build the residential building that general large amount of gold one-time over hours (i.e. Clapboard House).

Classification

According to their properties, the residential buildings can be sorted as three classes - Gold Booster, Balance and Population Supporter,

Gold Booster are the residence with high gold production compared to its population, they are Hut, Stilt House, Roof Tile House. They all are early age building.
The second class Balance, just like its name, is the residence with equally gold production and population, they are Thatched House, Frame House, Brownstone House, Estate HouseArcade House, and Workers' House .
The Population Supporter are the residence with high population but relatively low gold production, they are Chalet, Cottage, Town House, Apartment House, Country House and Gambrel Roof House.

Ages

Each buildings can be sorted into different age, as they can be build only by having researched the technology in the following age.

Stone Age

Bronze Age

Iron Age

Early Middle Age

High Middle Age

Late Middle Age

Colonial Age

Industrial Age

Progressive era

Premium Residential Buildings

Premium Residential Buildings are buildings that require Diamonds to build, instead of Gold and Supplies . They are unlocked right after having advanced to the corresponding age without researching the technology. For example, Villa is available once the player has advanded to Iron Age. Except Multistory House, which costs Diamonds to be unlocked after having researched the Multistory Houses technology.
