The Commando is the Light Unit from the Postmodern Era.
This is, apart from the MG Team, the last unit unlocked in the Postmodern Era. A Commando Camp is required to train this unit. It shares the highest attack value in the era with Universal Tanks, has moderately low defense, moderate movement and low range.
It is a useful upgrade to the Bazooka Team, having 10 more attack and defense, 4 more movement points but loses the Dug-In defense bonus. However the best improvements are its new skills, Close Quarters and Stealth in Forests, as well as increases in bonuses against heavy and artillery units and in entrenchments and forests.
Usage[]
The Commando is arguably less useful in the Postmodern Era. Although movement is improved to a good standard, it still has the weaknesses of having the lowest range in the Era, especially with the range increase in other units in the Postmodern Era.
They are also highly terrain dependent in order for them to be effective. Without proper terrain bonus they can take a lot of damage, especially against fast and ranged units and even against heavy units of the Postmodern Era.
If the terrain has a lot of forests, the Commando will have a much greater advantage of defense, and Stealth from other units’ ranged attacks. They can also force other units to attack at an adjacent tile and activate their close quarters ability and deal especially high damage against other units. Unfortunately their Stealth Ability in Forests does not prevent retaliation from units with the Contact! ability if the Commando attacks them.
Against Same Age Units[]
Universal Tank[]
The Commando is strong against the Universal Tank, especially if there are lots of forests. Whilst they do have less movement and range than the Universal Tank, their bonuses still prove them very useful against the tank. However, if the Commando is not in good terrain, the Universal Tank may prove dangerous to them.
Rocket Artillery[]
The Commando is very strong against the Rocket Artillery, predominantly due to the Commando’s bonuses and the general weak attack and defense of the Artillery. They can potentially one hit kill them if a sector has been infiltrated and the Commando gets close quarters with them, however, they may be hindered if the terrain is rough.
MG Team[]
The Commando is very weak against the MG Team, especially as the MG Team has the ability Contact!, which means that they can always retaliate against the Commando and because of their bonuses against light units and their superior range. If the Commando takes shelter in Forests, the MG Team will not be too much of a problem however.
IFV[]
The Commando is very weak against the IFV, particularly as the IFV has better movement and range and bonuses against light units. If the Commando is in Forests, and if the IFV is forced to melee attack them, the Commando do a lot of damage against them, otherwise in pretty much all situations, the Commando is no match for the IFV.
