The Dragon Drone is the light military unit of the Arctic Future. It is the only flying light unit in the game. It is trained in a Dragon Drone Base.
Compared to the Exoskeleton Soldier, the Dragon Drone gains 15 defense and a lot of movement, but loses 10 attack and becomes a melee unit. It also gains terrain bonuses in Rubble, bushes and forests as well as good bonuses against fast and artillery units. Its attack and defense are fairly low in the Arctic Future, though it possesses two special skills:
It has Dragon Breath: Attacks a row of enemies up to two tiles behind the target enemy without receiving retaliation. In total up to three enemy units can be attacked. Attack value is the same for all attacked units. When Dragon Drone gets attacked, it will retaliate, but it will not use the skill. If the drone is lucky enough to deal a critical hit, the increased damage will only affect the main target and not the units attacked as secondary targets. It also has Flying, which has been seen before by previous era units.
Usage[]
At first glance, the Dragon Drone may appear somewhat useless due to low base stats and is a melee unit, but its movement and ability Dragon Breath makes them a lot more useful than they seem. Although they have the disadvantage of being a melee unit (as they have to go straight into the enemy to attack), their Dragon Breath skill is also very useful at both avoiding retaliation and damaging multiple units. This skill is much more useful than it sounds due to the fact that the AI tends to sometimes group its units together, allowing the Dragon Drone to fully take advantage of this ability.
Despite this, the Dragon Drone is still somewhat weak in terms of attack and defense, and can easily be two hit killed by most units in the Arctic Future and beyond. Furthermore, as it is a melee unit, it still faces the disadvantage of having to go right up to the enemy, which may allow the enemy to easily target the Dragon Drone. Although it can ignore the Contact! skill, many ranged units with that ability are still strong against them.
Against Same Age Units[]
Recon Raider[]
The Dragon Drone is very strong against the Recon Raider, especially as they have bonuses against fast units. The Dragon Breath skill can also allow the Dragon Drone to avoid retaliation when attacking the Recon Raider and potentially damage many of them with one attack as well when many Recon Raiders are lined up. However, beware of the high attack of the Recon Raider as it can usually deal considerable damage to the Dragon Drone especially in high attrition fights.
Surrogate Soldier[]
Although the Dragon Drone can avoid the Surrogate Soldier's retaliation, the Dragon Drone is still weak against the Surrogate Soldier due to their bonuses against light units. However, the Dragon Drone can still deal with Surrogate Soldiers as long as the Surrogate Soldiers are eliminated quickly.
Battle Fortress[]
The Dragon Drone is very weak against the Battle Fortress, especially as the Reactive Armor ability also limits their effectiveness against the Battle Fortress. Overall, Battle Fortresses can easily eliminate the Dragon Drone in two hits, whilst the Dragon Drone has to four hit kill them.
Behemoth[]
The Dragon Drone is also weak against the Behemoth, especially as the Behemoth's massive attack and bonuses against light units can deal a lot of damage to the Dragon Drone. Furthermore, the Behemoth's Force Field ability also means that the Dragon Drone has difficulty killing Behemoths as well.
Plasma Artillery[]
The Dragon Drone is basically invincible against the Plasma Artillery, due to the fact that the Plasma Artillery cannot hit them. Like previous Flying units, the Plasma Artillery should be eliminated last when using a full Dragon Drone army.
