Dragoons are the Fast units of the Colonial Age. In comparison to the combined unit statistics of that era, Dragoons pose a moderate attacking threat whilst ranking defensively as among the highest alongside Grenadiers, which adds a considerable level of versatility to their traditional role as strike units in the game.
Usage[]
As with previous Fast Units, Dragoons remain the most effective type of troop type against Ranged Units and Artillery Units. They can reach the other side of the map in two turns, and can easily two hit Field Guns and Musketeers, while their extra defense protects them from the above units. They can also be used against Grenadiers with success.
Against Same Age Units[]
Ranger[]
Dragoons are very vulnerable against the Ranger. Rangers have an attack bonus against the Dragoon, so Dragoons will easily be defeated by Rangers. All combat should be avoided against Rangers. However, the increased defense of the Dragoon will prevent some damage compared to fast units of past ages.
Grenadier[]
Dragoons are moderately effective against Grenadiers. Both troops have the same defense values, so any damage taken by both troops will be insignificant. However, Dragoons can also be used to lead the Grenadiers on a chase while friendly artillery units kill off the Grenadiers. Note that the Grenadier does have a ranged attack, so Dragoons will not be able to retaliate if attacked from range.
Musketeer[]
All Musketeers fear the Dragoon, as Dragoons can easily reach them and kill them in two hits. Dragoons also have a defense against ranged units, making Dragoons the ideal unit to take out Musketeers. Players should be aware that Musketeers have an increased range of 7, letting Musketeers attack from a far range. Dragoons are excellent choices against Ranged + Artillery Unit armies.
Field Gun[]
The Field Gun, along with the Musketeer, fear the Dragoon. The Field Gun is very ineffective against the Dragoon, due to the high defense of the Dragoon and the speed that the Dragoon has. Field Guns are easily defeated by Dragoons, making them a very weak choice to counter Dragoons.
