Expansion

General information

Expansions allow the player to enlarge the building area of their city. One expansion unlocks an area of 4x4 tiles that has to be placed adjacent to the current building area grid. There are three ways to expand the building area: by paying with coins, by medals, or by diamonds. Expanding is crucial to increase supply and coin output. The player starts the game with 16 4x4 tile expansions.

Expansion by coins/diamonds needs to be researched in the technology tree or rewarded upon the conquest of a province on the campaign map before players can expand. Expansions by medals do not have this limitation and can be unlocked at any time provided the player has enough medals to unlock them. However, expansions by diamonds are limited to 2 expansions per age, meaning that if player has already unlocked 2 premium expansions in his/her age the next 2 premium diamond expansions will become available only once the player advances to the next age.

There is a maximum of 33 expansions unlocked through medals, 35 premium expansions unlocked by diamonds only and 85 expansions (48 by research, 37 by conquest on the campaign map) unlocked through coins/diamonds.

There are currently 207 expansion plots in the city build area, but only 169 known expansions.

The player can get expansions for their city by:

• 16 expansions already in place when you start your city.
• 48 reward (coin or diamond) expansions, obtained through research.
• 37 reward (coin or diamond) expansions, obtained from conquests on the campaign map.
• 33 victory (medal) expansions – medals are obtained from tower competitions, contribution rewards of Great Buildings, from medal packages during special events, incidents, and special buildings you can build in your city.
• 35 premium (diamond) expansions (2 per age) – new expansions are available when the player reaches a new age.
