The Glacier Hiker is a heavy military unit of the Space Age Jupiter Moon. It is unlocked by the technology High Pressure Detector 3000 and can be trained in the Glacier Galvanizer. It is preceded by the Steel Fist and succeeded by the Icebreaker. It has the special skills Keen Eye and Force Field. Like all other units, it takes 4 hours to train and heals at a rate of 24 minutes per hit point.
Compared to the Steel Fist, the Glacier Hiker improves by 150 attack and defense, though movement and range remain rather low. Continuing the past trends of Space Age Heavy units, they have slightly increased bonuses against fast and ranged units, though it has no terrain bonuses and the Keen Eye ability increases to 35% and it switches its defensive skill to Force Field.
Usage[]
Once again, the Glacier Hiker is a somewhat less useful unit, particularly, as with previous age heavy units, because their modest movement and very short range is a severe hindrance to their usefulness. However, the Force Field ability and slightly stronger attack and defense does prove them slightly more useful, particularly against fast units and other short range units, though they are still hopelessly weak against artillery units, as they can still attack them on the first turn and kill them in two or three hits, especially as the Glacier Hiker has low movement and range.
Against Same Age Units[]
Abyssal Glider[]
The Glacier Hiker is generally strong against the Abyssal Glider, especially when paired with rogues, as the Force Field ability and bonuses and good attack and defense allows the Glacier Hiker to get a good upper hand in the fight, especially after the Abyssal Glider has attacked on the first turn, leaving them vulnerable to counterattack.
Division Drones[]
The Division Drones are theoretically strong against the Glacier Hiker, though in high attrition, the Glacier Hiker tends to be more advantageous in an 8v8 due to the Glacier Hiker's Force Field ability and slightly stronger attack and defense.
Harpoon Grenadier[]
The Glacier Hiker's slow movement and low range proves them rather ineffective against the Harpoon Grenadier, despite having bonuses against them. Even with the absorbed hit points, the Glacier Hiker still takes a lot of damage over time, especially as the Contact! ability of the Harpoon Grenadier does even more damage to them, when the Glacier Hiker manages to eventually attack them.
Glacier Hiker[]
Against enemy Glacier Hikers, both Glacier Hikers will do little damage against each other (in high attrition) and you may have to endure quite a lot of damage even when paired with rogues. It is much better to use artillery units or even ranged units against the Glacier Hiker.
Cavitation Tank[]
The Glacier Hiker's biggest counter is the Cavitation Tank: the Cavitation Tank's very long range and the fact that they can attack the Glacier Hiker on the first turn makes the Glacier Hiker very weak against them. They will usually even be killed before they even manage to attack the Cavitation Tank.
