Happiness of the population influences production and income of buildings. Enthusiastic population will provide the city with +20% coin boost and supply boost. Players should aim to keep the population enthusiastic and not let the happiness fall below the demand, since it will give a negative 50% penalty to all coin and supply productions. Happiness does not affect the production of goods buildings.
Happiness Calculations[]
The following values are relevant in calculating productivity percentage:
- Demand for happiness is equal to city's total population.
- Provided happiness is equal to the sum of happiness for all buildings in the city.
- Happiness ratio is calculated by dividing the provided happiness with the demand for happiness.
The table below outlines how the happiness ratio affects the productivity of buildings:
Happiness Ratio | Population Mood | Productivity |
---|---|---|
Above 1.4 | Enthusiastic | 120 % |
Between 1.0 and 1.4 | Content | 100 % |
Below 1.0 | Angry | 50 % |
- Additional Happiness is equal to the amount of happiness remaining over enthusiastic status.
Gaining Happiness[]
In order to increase happiness, players need to build cultural buildings or decorations. As space becomes limited, upgrading roads is a good way to increase happiness without losing valuable space. The initial investment may seem high, but the efficiency bonus makes up for it in the long term.
Most buildings that provide happiness can be polished by friends, guildmates or neighbors to receive a multiplied bonus of happiness. Players should have many friends available to receive the bonus. It is good practice to aid the friends' buildings first.
Although cultural buildings, decorations and roads are the main source of happiness for most of players, a lot of players gain most of their happiness from special buildings or Great Buildings.
Many of the special buildings provide more happiness per tile than cultural buildings or decorations from the same era. Often those buildings have a secondary benefit as well, for example coin production.
