The Hover Hammer is a fast military unit of the Space Age Asteroid Belt. It is unlocked by the technology Reinforced Mining Parts and can be trained in the Hover Hammer Parkour. Like most other units, it takes 4 hours to train and heals at a rate of 24 minutes per hit point.
The Hover Hammer is preceded by the Sentinel and succeeded by the Energy Cannon. Despite upgrading the Sentinel by a nice 150 attack and 250 defense, its major difference compared to the two is its melee range and slightly lowered movement. Bonuses against ranged and artillery units are increased and like other Space Age units, it has the special skills Keen Eye at 25% and a unique Flying ability, like all fast units from that point on.
Usage[]
The Hover Hammer’s loss of movement and range makes all the difference in its usage. The loss of being able to attack on the first turn and having to receive retaliation are the two side effects from them. In the practice, they fall easily to almost all ranged units and light and heavy units, as well as other fast units from other ages with matched stats. Although it can’t be attacked by artillery, other Flying units are much better at dealing with them especially if there are other units in the way of the artillery. It should strongly be avoided, therefore to use the Hover Hammer as the Sentinel of the previous age is still a much better option, whilst it can be easily replaced by the Energy Cannon of the next age. In virtually no situation will you ever find a decent use for them, and as the Power Dragon of the next age is able to attack them, they should be strongly discontinued.
Against Same Age Units[]
Hover Hammer[]
As Hover Hammers receive retaliation against each other, you should not really use Hover Hammers against each other. Other units are much better for taking advantage of the Hover Hammer's lack of range.
Nail Storm[]
The inability for the Hover Hammer to attack the Nail Storm on the first turn makes the Hover Hammer very susceptible to them in the practice. Furthermore, the Nail Storm's very long range can easily make the Hover Hammer take many hits from them before they are ever endangered by the Hover Hammer.
B.E.L.T.[]
Despite being invulnerable to the BELT, Flying units from other eras are much better to be used against the BELT, not because the BELT is a threat to the Hover Hammer, but because the Hover Hammer is very vulnerable to other units instead before they can even eliminate the BELT. For full artillery armies, however, the Hover Hammer is still the instant solution to them.
Shredder[]
Due to the Shredder's slightly extended range, the Hover Hammer will not be able to retaliate against them, whilst they will receive retaliation for their attacks. In the practice, this makes the Hover Hammer very weak against the Shredder when both sides have matched up stats.
Drill Ranger[]
The Drill Ranger is also a big problem for the Hover Hammer as they receive retaliation all the time from the Drill Ranger. As the Hover Hammer may also move themselves in range of the Drill Ranger, the Hover Hammer is very vulnerable to the Drill Ranger.
