The Imperial Guard is the heavy unit in the Late Middle Ages, unlocked after having researched the Pike Square technology. It has a moderate attack and the highest defense among all LMA units. Effective against Light Unit Class.
History
Mercenaries had become more common in the medieval age than regular soldiers. Based on the fact that mercenaries already had fighting skills and could be quickly deployed into battle, there was no need to train them. A downside is that they weren't very trustworthy as they tended to only fight for the highest bidder. Reliable mercenaries such as the Swiss pikemen (imperial guard) were very popular in the late Middle Ages. Not only were they known for being very reliable but also for their unique formation called the pike square formation, and their unique, aggressive tactics.
Appearance
They are wearing a morion helmet with plate armour and what is either a halberd or a poleaxe
