The Rail Gun is the artillery military unit of the Future Era. It is unlocked through the Extended Gaussian Distribution, and is the last unlocked unit of the Future Era. It is trained in the Rail Gun Range and it can also be received by completing the Up for a Fight Story Quest.
Compared to previous artillery units, the Rail Gun is the first artillery unit in the game to possess very strong attack and defense compared to other Future Era units, as well as a significant increase in range, being able to attack enemy units directly opposite the map without moving, although they are limited by having the lowest movement in the game, equal to that of artillery units from the Bronze Age to the Late Middle Ages. They also possess two special abilities, namely Power Shot and Recharge.
Power Shot: Ignores most defensive Skills and Terrain. To be more precise, the Power Shot ability allows Rail Guns to ignore Stealth (so they can attack units in hiding), Reactive Armor (so they can deal more damage than the maximum cap) and Flying units (normally artillery units cannot hit Flying units, but this skill allows them to be able to hit Flying units, so they are not totally vulnerable to them). The Power Shot ability also allows the Rail Gun ignore terrain bonuses, but not class bonuses.
Recharge: Fires every other turn only. For instance, the Rail Gun can fire on the first turn, but misses out on the second to "recharge", and then is able to fire on the third, but then has to "recharge" on the fourth turn, etc. If you do skip an attack, you can still fire on the next turn however.
Usage[]
The Rail Gun is in general a very effective artillery unit. The Power Shot ability is mainly the reason why it is very successful, and combined with a very strong attack and defense, they can deal enormous amounts of damage, and take often little damage back, especially against light and heavy units. They can two hit kill all units in the Tomorrow Era and below as long as the enemy does not have an overly strong defense boost, if you are using this as a higher era unit. They can also destroy higher era units, such as the Battle Fortress and Octopod in just two hits as well.
The downsides of the Rail Gun is its Recharge skill, which serves as more of a hindrance than a skill. It can only fire once every two turns, which is very limiting as it allows the enemy to get across the map faster, as well as having to take twice the damage from enemy units that can strike on the first turn, and they have massive disadvantage when fighting such units.
Against Same Age Units[]
Hover Tank[]
The Rail Gun is very strong against the Hover Tank, owing to its massive bonuses against heavy units. Despite the Force Field ability preventing Rail Guns to effectively damage to them, Rail Guns can still easily two hit kill Hover Tanks and deal a lot of damage against them. Even though the Recharge skill may allow the Hover Tanks to attack the Rail Guns twice, the very strong defense of the Rail Gun allows them to withstand many attacks from them.
Drone Swarm[]
Although the Drone Swarm has the Flying ability, the Rail Gun can still attack and kill them somewhat easily. However, the Drone Swarm has massive bonuses against artillery, meaning that the Rail Gun cannot effectively damage them and has to take a lot of damage when the Drone Swarms attack them, though their slow mobility and melee range may prevent them from reaching the Rail Guns on the first turn, despite their Rapid Deployment ability.
Exoskeleton Soldier[]
The Rail Gun is very effective against the Exoskeleton Soldier, given their good bonuses against light units an their strong attack and defense in general. The Rail Gun can deal a lot of damage against the Exoskeleton Soldier, and they in turn deal little damage against the Rail Gun. The Rail Gun's weakness is its Recharge Skill, but nevertheless, they are still very efficient at eliminating them.
Satellite Spotter[]
Although the Satellite Spotter has bonuses against artillery units, their poor attack and defense usually means that the Rail Gun can still be somewhat effective at eliminating them. The Rail Gun's major weakness when fighting the Satellite Spotter is their Recharge skill, which is usually made worse by the fact that the Satellite Spotter has very high mobility and range, though the Rail Guns can still deal effective damage against the Satellite Spotter and take reduced damage back, as long as you have a strong enough attack and defense boost.
