The Rocket Troop is an artillery military unit of the Virtual Future. It can also be received by completing the following Story Quest of the Virtual Future: Efficiency Through Rockets, but it can only be acquired in the Virtual Future and beyond.
The Rocket Troop is a great upgrade from its predecessor, the Turturret: they gain a whopping 130 attack and 40 defense, whilst range and movement are increased by 20%. Bonuses against light and heavy units are also increased, and they keep the great Mortar ability of the Turturret. Compared to same age units, the Rocket Troop has the highest attack and range, but the lowest defense and movement, and they have an initiative value of 25.
Usage[]
The Rocket Troop is arguably one of the best units in the game. It is a direct upgrade from the Turturret, improving in all parameters. They counter all heavy units without Stealth effortlessly easily and they can also take on various other units without Stealth very easily, owing to its great initiative value which allows them to strike on the first turn and deal significant amounts of damage with its Mortar ability, even if the units have defensive capabilities, such as Reactive Armor and Force Field, especially if the units are clumped together. They work very well in Level 4 Guild Expeditions, as many of those contain heavy units, which many encounters will have. In fact, it can even be continued in the Space Ages, provided you have a good attack boost, as their high initiative value allows them to move before many units, and they can successfully clear out any army combination as long as there are no fast units.
The only risks to the Rocket Troop are, however, Flying units, as the Rocket Troop cannot attack them (despite being able to hit them with the Mortar splash), and Stealth units, as they can seriously limit the Rocket Troop's effectiveness against them when hidden (the most notable of them all is the Hover Tank).
Against Same Age Units[]
Ninja[]
The Ninja is the biggest threat to the Rocket Troop due to their Rapid Deployment ability along with their bonuses against artillery units. The Ninja can deal significant damage to the Rocket Troop on the first turn. Even if the damage is negated by using rogues, the Ninja can still hide in forests making the fight difficult for the Rocket Troop. However, exposed Ninjas can still be easily killed by the Rocket Troop.
Warrior Monk[]
The Rocket Troop is mainly ineffective against the Warrior Monk due to the massive Dug In and defense bonuses the Warrior Monk has against the Rocket Troop, as well as the fact that the Warrior Monk can move and spread out, meaning that the Rocket Troop cannot take maximum advantage of its Mortar ability. Meanwhile, the Warrior Monk can reach the Rocket Troop in two moves and deal significant damage to the Rocket Troop. In high scaled boosts however, the Rocket Troop does eventually tend to dominate the Warrior Monk and kill them in two hits.
Rocket Troop[]
Enemy Rocket Troops are also a very big threat to your Rocket Troops as the Mortar ability can cause significant damage to both sides of Rocket Troops. To effectively destroy Rocket Troops with Rocket Troops, you must make sure to have more Rocket Troops on your team, so that you can move first and destroy enemy Rocket Troops before they can attack.
Augmented Samurai[]
The Rocket Troop is very effective at killing Augmented Samurai as they can move before them and deal enormous amounts of damage to them on the first turn, despite the Augmented Samurai’s Reactive Armor ability (in fact, 8 Rocket Troops can actually kill 8 Augmented Samurai on the first turn). However, the Augmented Samurai does have very fast movement, so make sure to eliminate them on the first turn to maximise the damage with your Mortar ability.
Ronin Bot[]
The Rocket Troop is also the best solution to destroy many Ronin Bots, as their Mortar ability can also deal great damage to them on the first turn. The only drawback is the Ronin Bot’s Force Field ability which can limit the splash damage dealt to surrounding units, but even still, the Rocket Troops can easily finish them before they can reach the Rocket Troop.
