The Scimitar is the second light military unit of the Oceanic Future. It is unlocked by research the technology Enhanced Streamlining. It is trained in the Scimitar Hangar.
Compared to its predecessor, the Dragon Drone, the Scimitar improves by a great 70 attack and defense, and movement is increased slightly and still has a melee range, as well as gaining bonuses against heavy and fast units. It also has various terrain bonuses, but it keeps the ability Dragon Breath: Attacks a row of enemies up to two tiles behind the target enemy without receiving retaliation. In total up to three enemy units can be attacked, but loses the Flying ability.
Usage[]
Like the Dragon Drone before it, the Scimitar still sometimes suffers being a melee unit, yet in compensation, its Dragon Breath ability is very useful both for avoiding retaliation and damaging multiple units at once. The Scimitar now is best deployed against fast and heavy units, but they can also deal with a small number of ranged units as well. It is much more powerful than it seems, especially because enemy units tend to clump together, making this ability very useful.
However, the Scimitar can be defeated by artillery units, and this is made worse by the fact that they have melee range and they have to go right up into enemy lines of fire to attack them. As they are no longer Flying, it may take them quite some time to get from one side of the battlefield to the other.
Against Same Age Units[]
Hydroelectric Eel[]
The Scimitar is very strong against the Hydroelectric Eel, given the strong bonuses the Scimitar has against the Eel. In addition, the Scimitar's Dragon Breath ability can allow them to ignore retaliation from the Eel and potentially damage many of them at once, though this may not always be the case. The Scimitar only has to watch out for the fast first strikes of the Eel, as that can sometimes deal quite significant damage to the Scimitars before they can counterattack.
Gliders[]
The Scimitar is very strong against the Gliders, given the strong bonuses the Scimitar has agains them. As the Gliders will usually clump together after a rapid first attack, the Scimitar can easily counterattack and potentially damage many of them at once with their Dragon Breath ability. The only threat is the high attack of the Gliders, as it can sometimes deal quite significant damage to the Scimitars before they can counterattack.
Manta[]
The Manta is generally on even terms with the Scimitar, as the Manta can attack the Scimitar at a distance, whilst the Scimitar can avoid the Manta's retaliation. In most cases however, the Manta will generally be able to attack the Scimitar first, though the Scimitar can attack many Mantas at once. It is up to boosts to decide the outcome of the fight.
Scimitar[]
The Scimitar should generally not be used to counter enemy Scimitars, due to the fact that both sides have the Dragon Breath ability, which means there will be a lot of damage to be taken as you attack enemy Scimitars, leading to many wounds even if you win.
Sub Cruiser[]
Generally, the Scimitar should avoid combat with the Sub Cruiser, as the Sub Cruiser has a long range and bonuses against light units, though the Scimitar can still attack them without fear of retaliation and potentially damage many of them at once.
Nautilus[]
The Scimitar is weak against the Nautilus, due to their bonuses and Force Field ability, which greatly limits the attacking potential the Scimitar has against the Nautilus. Meanwhile the Nautilus can deal quite considerable damage to the Scimitar at a distance.
C.R.A.B. Mech[]
The Scimitar is effective at killing the Crab Mech, due to the Crab Mech's slow movement and the Scimitar's bonuses against heavy units. The Crab Mechs tend to line together when fighting the Scimitar, meaning the Scimitar can easily take advantage of its Dragon Breath ability. The only limitations are the Crab Mech's Reactive Armor skill.
Octopod[]
The Scimitar is also effective at killing the Octopod, due to the Scimitar's bonuses against heavy units. The Octopods also tend to line together when fighting the Scimitar, meaning the Scimitar can easily take advantage of its Dragon Breath ability. However, the only threat to the Scimitar is the Octopod's Frenzy ability, which can cause some significant damage to the Scimitar.
Turturret[]
The Scimitar is very weak against the Turturret, due to the Turturret's bonuses against light units, and the fact that it takes quite some time before the Scimitar is able to reach the Turturret. Furthermore, despite being able to spread out, the Turturret can still deal a lot of damage to the Scimitar.
Medusa[]
The Medusa is a very big threat to the Scimitar, due to the Medusa's massive attack and bonus against light units. The Medusa is able to kill Scimitars in two hits before they move, leaving the rest of the Scimitars unable to deal much damage afterwards.
