The Sentinel is a fast military unit of the Space Age Mars. They are trained in a Sentinel Dome.
The Sentinel upgrades its predecessor, the Warrior Monk by effectively doubling their attack and defense. Movement is decreased to 30, but it now has a modest range of 8 (6 tiles). It has bonuses against ranged and artillery units, and like other Space Age units, it has the Keen Eye ability at 20% and its unique Flying ability. It has an initiative value of 50? (to be confirmed).
Usage[]
The Sentinel is a very useful and strong unit in this era; with a good attack boost, 8 Sentinels can easily destroy 4 enemy units on the first turn, as long as they can two-hit kill the enemy (except the Hydroelectric Eel and Gliders, who can move before them) and with the addition of Keen Eye, it can sometimes be even more than that. Likewise, their Flying ability also contributes greatly to their success: they are unable to be attacked by artillery as well as being able to reach enemy units with no hindrance whatsoever. Therefore they are absolutely invulnerable to artillery units and can take out ranged and even light units too, but they do fail against heavy units as they may take multiple hits to kill with their strong defense. They only start to fail once they are unable to easily kill enemy units as easily on the first turn which leaves them vulnerable to the following counterattacks of the next units.
They can even replace the Hover Hammer of the next age and can be reliably used, as long as your boost is sufficiently strong enough, until the Space Age Venus, where the Energy Cannon becomes a better choice with their much-improved attack and defense.
Against Same Age Units[]
Sentinel[]
As long as your Sentinels are in greater number, the Sentinel can easily kill enemy Sentinels to cut out their turns before they are able to attack, or if you use rogues to absorb the enemy Sentinels' initial attacks.
Tesla Walker[]
The Sentinel is rather strong against the Tesla Walker, predominantly owing to the fact that the Sentinel can move first and reduce the Tesla Walkers' numbers to ensure a safe victory, even at times when both sides' stats are matched up. The Tesla Walker only proves a threat to the Sentinel if they aren't eliminated quickly.
Sniperbot[]
As the Sniperbot cannot damage the Sentinel in any way, the Sentinel is obviously the perfect solution to them. As ever, when using a full Sentinel army, other units should be eliminated first before destroying the Sniperbot, as they prove no threat whatsoever to them.
Steel Warden[]
Due to the Steel Warden's defense and Force Field ability, the Sentinel is immediately vulnerable to them, particularly as they cannot eliminate them as easily when both your stats are matched up, which generally results in greater losses, especially as more units can counterattack the Sentinels. Unless you have a great attack advantage over them, it is much wiser to use artillery units against them instead.
Space Marine[]
The Space Marine can potentially be a threat to the Sentinel, particularly if they are not eliminated on the first turn. The Space Marine's Dragon Breath ability sometimes allows them to have a massive advantage against the Sentinel, especially because Sentinels tend to line up during their initial attacks. Should they be eliminated quickly, however, they are not too much of a problem, as they do not have any potent defensive capabilities against them.
