The Shredder is a heavy military unit of the Space Age Asteroid Belt. It is unlocked by the technology Selective Heat Generation and can be trained in the Shredder Factory.
It is preceded by the Steel Warden and they gain 150 attack and 200 defense, but they have only 2 tiles range. Like other Space Age units, it has the special skills Keen Eye and Close Quarters.
They are succeeded by the Steel Fist.
Usage[]
The Shredder is a weak unit due to their lack of movement and most importantly range, even though they can attack without facing retaliation. In this era, however, they can effectively take on other melee and short ranged units, but they are very impractical to use as a whole, and they fall very easily to both ranged and artillery units.
Their usage should be strongly discontinued past the Space Age Asteroid Belt.
Against Same Age Units[]
Hover Hammer[]
The Shredder is strong against the Hover Hammer, as they can attack them without retaliation, whilst the Hover Hammer has to suffer retaliation against the Shredder, making them effective against them.
Nail Storm[]
Having a great range advantage, despite the theoretical bonus, makes the Shredder very weak against the Nail Storm. The Nail Storm can easily attack the Shredder many times before the Shredder can counterattack.
B.E.L.T.[]
For the same reason, the BELT can easily eliminate the Shredder, so they should be avoided when facing BELTs.
Shredder[]
The Shredder is generally neutral against itself, as both sides can attack without retaliation, with only boosts determining the winning side. Instead, other long ranged units should be used to counter the Shredder instead.
Drill Ranger[]
Despite the Drill Ranger having bonuses against the Shredder, the Shredder is generally stronger owing to their retaliation advantage (as mentioned with the Hover Hammer).
