The Space Marine is a light military unit of the Space Age Mars. They are trained in a Space Marine Barracks.
Compared to its predecessor, the Augmented Samurai, the Space Marine effectively doubles their attack and defense, whilst movement and range are kept the same. Bonuses against fast and heavy units are increased slightly, but the biggest feature is their ability Dragon Breath (It attacks a row of enemies up to three tiles behind the target enemy without receiving retaliation. In total up to four enemy units can be attacked.) and the Keen Eye ability (20% chance to deal double the hit points of damage).
They have an initiative value of 5, which is the lowest of all units except rogues.
Usage[]
The Space Marine is a very strong upgrade to the useless Augmented Samurai, due to the fact that they re-acquire Dragon Breath. The other parameter of their success is their very low initiative value, which makes them much more useful on auto-battle compared its old Dragon Breath counterparts, the Dragon Drone and Scimitar, as this allows all enemy units to move first, so that the real Space Marine doesn't end up rushing to the other side and getting itself killed. With that said, the Space Marine is very effective against fast units because the Space Marine can finish them off without retaliation after they have attacked (and potentially damage many of them at once). They are also decently strong against heavy units too (provided they can reach your rogues on the next turn), but they are very susceptible to artillery units and long-ranged ranged units, as the Space Marine will take a long time before they can reach them, taking significant damage along the way. To sum it up, they are a fairly useful unit in this era.
Against Same Age Units[]
Sentinel[]
The Space Marine is most effective against the Sentinel, especially when used with rogues, as the Sentinels present themselves immediately vulnerable to the Space Marine after attacking, in which case the Space Marine can easily finish them off, taking no retaliation and potentially damaging many Sentinels clumped together. Only be cautious of the Sentinel's initial strike as that may cause some damage to the Space Marine.
Tesla Walker[]
The Tesla Walker is a threat to the Space Marine as they can often attack the Space Marine before they have moved, causing significant damage to them. In addition, the Space Marine cannot reach the Tesla Walker on the following turn, rendering them vulnerable to another set of attacks or two from them, which makes the Space Marine very weak against the Tesla Walker.
Sniperbot[]
The Sniperbot is also a big threat to the Space Marine, as the Sniperbot can attack the Space Marine on the first turn and deal significant damage to them. Meanwhile, it will take the Space Marine two or three turns before they can reach the Sniperbot, making them very vulnerable to the Sniperbot.
Steel Warden[]
The Space Marine is generally strong against the Steel Warden. As both sides can attack each other without retaliation, the match-up is usually even, but as the Steel Warden has the Force Field ability, this can be a limiting factor to the Space Marine's strength against them. The only way the Space Marine can get the upper hand is to have a greater boost and take advantage of its Dragon Breath ability.
Space Marine[]
It is not recommended to use Space Marines against Space Marines, as the fight gets very complex when both sides of Space Marines activate their Dragon breath ability, which leads to varied results.
