The Turturret is the first artillery military unit of the Oceanic Future. It is unlocked with the technology Biomimetic Armor and trained in a Turturret Dock. It can also be received by completing the Thinning Fleet, Collateral Damage, Busy (Oceanic Part 4), Skeletons, Search Party, and Takeover Story Quests.
In the Oceanic Future, the Turturret has moderate attack and defense, a long range of 20 but a slow movement of 10. It is capable of moving on water tiles and it has an initiative value of 22, meaning it moves in line with Champions. It has good bonuses against light units and a strong bonus against heavy units, as well as minor terrain bonuses.
It also has a special ability called Mortar, which allows it to deal 50% damage to all enemy units within 2 tiles of the targeted unit as well as damaging the targeted unit. The Mortar ability can also indirectly attack Flying and Stealth units within the radius as well.
Usage[]
The Turturret is one of the best units to use, especially as a higher era units, due to its Mortar ability. Its somewhat high initiative value allows it to target enemy units grouped together on the first turn, causing massive amounts of damage before the enemy can even move. Also due to the fact that the AI often groups enemy troops together, the Mortar ability is actually a lot stronger than it seems, as they can damage many units at once, allowing you to fully take advantage of this ability. The Rocket Troop of the Virtual Future is an even better choice, increasing the Turturret's abilities and stats even further.
The downsides of the Turturret are, however, the loss of the Blast ability. It can no longer target Stealth units (especially the popular Hover Tank), making them very weak against such units. Like most artillery units, it cannot attack Flying units, despite being able to attack them indirectly, so they are also very vulnerable to those. Another downside to the Mortar ability are also rogues. As the artillery cannot control what units can or can't be hit, it can be somewhat annoying when you unintentionally transform rogues, which may lead to a worse result than anticipated.
Against Same Age Units[]
Hydroelectric Eel[]
The Turturret is very weak against the Hydroelectric Eel, as they can often attack Turturrets on the first turn or hide in bushes, making them immune from the Turturret's attacks. The Turturret cannot damage the Hydroelectric Eel effectively even with their Mortar ability, whilst the Hydroelectric Eel can easily destroy Turturrets in two hits.
Gliders[]
The Gliders' Flying ability and fast movement automatically makes the Turturret near useless against them. The Turturret cannot attack the Gliders (with the exception of them being in range of their Mortar ability) whilst the Gliders can easily destroy Turturrets in two hits.
Manta[]
The Turturret is very strong against the Manta, due to the Turturret's massive bonus against light units. Although the Manta has very good movement, the Turturret can easily finish the Manta in two hits and deal especially loads of damage if many of them are clumped together. Meanwhile, the Manta will often struggle to deal significant damage to the Turturret, even with their Poison effect.
Scimitar[]
The Turturret is also very strong against the Scimitar, due to the Turturret's massive bonus against light units. The Turturret can easily kill Scimitars, especially if they are clumped together. Depending on the terrain, the Scimitar will often take two or three turns to reach the other side of the map, whilst the Turturret can retreat and deal more damage to them. Even if the Scimitar does manage to reach the Turturret, they won't usually deal much damage. Only make sure to not activate the Scimitar's Dragon Breath ability by lining your Turturrets together.
Sub Cruiser[]
Theoretically, the Sub Cruiser should be strong against the Turturret, but they can't often attack Turturrets on the first turn, and if many Sub Cruisers are huddled together, the Turturret can still be very strong against them, as they are also able to avoid their retaliation. However, the damage the Turturret does to the Sub Cruiser is somewhat limited and the Sub Cruiser can still deal significant damage to the Turturret, so Turturrets are still weak against them.
Nautilus[]
Unfortunately, the combined effects of the bonuses against artillery the Nautilus has, combined with their Force Field ability, the Turturret is very weak against the Nautilus. Even if many Nautili are grouped together, the Turturret is only able to deal around 1-2 damage to them. Although the Nautilus can't attack Turturrets on the first turn, the Nautilus can deal significant damage to the Turturret once they reach them.
C.R.A.B. Mech[]
The Turturret is the best solution against the Crab Mech, especially as the Turturret not only has massive bonuses against them, but also moves before them, meaning that they are clumped together and the Turturret can use its Mortar ability to the maximum, even if the Crab Mech's Reactive Armor skill may limit the damage the Turturret deals on them. Futhermore, the slow movement and short range of the Crab Mech also means they are unable to reach the Turturrets easily and they can still be easily finished off on the next turn.
Octopod[]
Similarly, the Turturret is also very strong against the Octopod, given the Turturret's bonuses against heavy units. As the Turturret can actually move before the Octopod, the Turturret is often able to maximise the effects of their Mortar ability. Even if Octopods are not eliminated in one round, the Turturret can still easily finish them off the second round, as although the Octopod has good movement and range, they are unable to attack Turturrets the round after.
Medusa[]
The Turturret is generally weak against the Medusa, even though both have their own advantages and disadvantages. The Medusa is able to attack Turturrets first and deal significant damage to the Turturrets before they can even move. The Turturret on the other hand, is unable to take advantage of its Mortar ability unless many Medusas happened to have spawned close to each other.
Trivia[]
The Turturret is a combination of "Turtle" and "Turret".
